The Albaicin was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994 as it preserves archaeological remains of great value, much of its medieval Islamic urbanism with very narrow and labyrinthine cobbled streets, as well as a rich set of Hispano-Muslim buildings harmoniously blended with traditional Andalusian architecture, all the result of its rich history. Its location on a hill makes every corner a beautiful viewpoint towards the lower city, the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Sacromonte is a picturesque neighborhood with cave houses carved into the hill. In addition, its exotic history takes us back to the 15th century after the Christian conquest, when the area outside the city walls became home to a then marginalized population of gypsies and Moors. A sacred mountain and a Flemish and gypsy mountain that is worth understanding.
