- Progress in aid climbing.
- Understand and test gear by taking falls on it.
- Learn how to belay a partner climbing as the lead or second on the rope.
- Pass the rope safely through anchors for rappelling.
- Get familiar with trad climbing gear.
- Learn the basic knots for trad climbing.
Target audience: People who want to train in multi-pitch trad rock climbing.
Course program:
On the first day, we will meet at the location, either Monachil or Nigüelas, and drive a few minutes to the climbing sector, followed by a 5-10 minute walk. We will begin with an introduction to the equipment, followed by an explanation of gear placement. After that, we will move on to setting up different types of multi-directional floating anchors. We will cover the equalette 3, the fisherman’s knot, and the blocked anchor. After a break for lunch, we will continue with aid climbing on a two-pitch route. We will rappel from the floating anchor we set at the top of the route using a single rope.
We will gather the gear, walk back to the car (5-10 minutes), and finish the day.
On the second day, we will follow the same approach. We will meet at the location, either Monachil or Nigüelas, drive a few minutes to the climbing sector, and then walk for about 5-10 minutes. We will start by climbing with a single rope, placing protection, and taking falls to test the gear. Then, we will progress on a two-pitch route with double ropes, alternating the lead between team members. After reaching the top of the second pitch, we will rappel from another floating anchor, which we will leave behind. After a lunch break, we will focus on self-rescue techniques in the afternoon. We will finish by organizing the gear and walking back to the car (5-10 minutes), concluding the course.
